CEMEX USA
What: CEMEX, in conjunction with CEMEX USA, improved environmental reclamation techniques at company mine sites resulting in new technologies.
When: May 1, 2005, CEMEX USA received recognition for environmental innovative practices in its Ohio and Tennessee plants.
How: The CEMEX USA Tennessee plant used new abatement method technology, reducing nitrogen oxides by 15 percent. This method led to water injection technology and the development of a continuous monitoring system for carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide emissions.
Other Contributions: CEMEX USA contributes to the environment by using reclamation techniques and technology at its facilities in Houston and Katy, Texas. CEMEX USA also invented the smart silo for its customers, reduction paperwork and increasing inventory control.
Dr. Martin Cooper
What: Dr. Marin Cooper invented the first cellular phone while he worked for Motorola. Bell Laboratories first came up with the idea, but failed to invent the phone.
When: Dr. Cooper made his first call on the cellular phone in 1973 to his competitor at Bell Laboratories.
How: The invention of the cellular phone has revolutionized the communications industry by making communication mobile.
Other Contributions: Before the inception of the cellular phone, Dr. Cooper invented the first portable handheld police radio in 1967. The Chicago Police Department commissioned the project.
What: Steve Jobs serves as one of the original founders of Apple Computer, where he developed the first commercially successful computer using a graphical interface.
When: Apple began in 1976 with the partnership between Steve Jobs and his friend Steve Wozniak. The Apple Macintosh launched in 1984.
How: The invention of the Macintosh, now known as the Mac, successfully combined esthetics with technology. The first Apple computer released at a price of $666.66 making it relatively affordable to those who wanted a personal computer.
Other Contributions: Jobs contributes to the advancement of technology at Pixar. In addition to Apple Computer Inc., He established NeXt Computer, known for its advanced technology.
