What: Constellation Energy Group, under the guidance of CEO Mayo A. Shattuck, continues to increase the use of nuclear power for energy by creating new technology and safety procedures for its plants.
When: Constellation Energy started in 1916 under the name of Consolidated Gas Electric Light and Power Company of Baltimore. Mayo A. Shattuck began his work with Constellation Energy and nuclear power in 2001.
How: The use of nuclear power for electricity protects the environment by producing no emissions. Constellation Energy Group generates 52 percent of its electricity from nuclear power.
Other Contributions: In 2005, Mayo A. Shattuck met with President George W. Bush to discuss the advantages of nuclear power as a source of energy and its environmental advantages.
HP
What: HP created the first thermal inkjet technology for printers in 1979. The company later introduced disposable ink cartridges in 1984, and developed the first photo printer and cartridge in 1996.
When: Hewlett-Packard started in 1939 with the partnership of William Hewlett and David Packard. The company continues to develop innovative printers, computers, and other electronic devices under the guidance of HP CEO and HP Chairman Mark Hurd, and the HP Board of Directors.
How: Through HP’s advancements in printer technology, customers received access to high quality printing and photography services at home. The technology HP crated lead to a revolution in the home and business printing industry.
Other Contributions: HP CEO and Chairman Mark Hurd continues to encourage innovation in the computer and printing industry. HP provides a video featuring the HP Chairman talking about the promise of HP’s future.
Intel
What: Intel, the computer processing chip manufacturer, constantly innovates new technologies for computing.
When: In 1968, Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore founded Intel after leaving Fairchild Semiconductor.
How: The Core 2 Duo chip represents one of the fastest desktop chips with features such as Advanced Smart Caching, Smart Memory Access, and Wide Dynamic Execution. All of this functionality as well as a significant reduction in power consumption merits Intel's addition to the group of Technological Innovators.
Other contributions: Intel uses innovation in the architecture of its products, advanced silicon processes, and identify and meet new platform challenges as part of its commitment to moving technology forward.
